Jeff Nichols

Hello and welcome! I'm a software developer out of Camden, South Carolina. I earned my BS in Computer Science from Furman University in 2000 and have since been living in the incredible city of Berlin, Germany. I have in the past specialized in web service development, but now I'm trying my hand at desktop applications, web design and the convergence of them all. I've recently founded Wateree Software to house some of these projects. But I always love hearing about new projects and opportunities, so if you're interested in my services. Here are a few projects that I've been involved with recently:

Syncman

Syncman

Syncman is a simple synchronization tool to synchronize your Mac's built-in Address Book with your Gmail (or Google Apps) contacts. It tries to offer sophisticated synchronization in a simple package that doesn't scare you too much. My work at Weblicon has certainly been a huge asset in the development of Syncman, and as far as I know it's the first app of its kind. Isn't it nice drawing on old skills?

Pomoto

Pomoto

I founded Pomoto with the idea of creating a simple and elegant service for publishing photos to the web. One of the main goals of Pomoto is to drastically minimize the publishing effort by utilizing the organizational work you've already done. Since I'm a Mac user, this means integrating seamlessly with iPhoto. The other dominating goal is to publish a gallery that emphasizes clean and minimal design without the clutter and distractions that pervade much of our online experience.

Mobster

Musicmobs

Musicmobs was a social music site focusing on music discovery and playlist sharing. Collaborative filtering was used to offer recommendations and users are able to upload and share playlists and listening statistics. Musicmobs was an early adoptor of the XSPF playlist format for portable playlists. I got involved with Musicmobs through a friend with whom I worked at Weblicon. I rewrote the Windows version of Mobster, a desktop client that integrated iTunes with Musicmobs. Musicmobs is now part of the Last.fm family. Congratulations Toby!

Weblicon

Weblicon

Weblicon was a small, international software company offering telecommunications scale PIM (Personal Information Manager) and synchronization software. We based our synchronization platform on SyncML (now known as OMA Data Synchronization), an open standard for data synchronization supported by virtually all major mobile platform providers. I was the Development Lead for our SyncML server, one of the first SyncML servers available. Weblicon was purchased by Synchronica in May of 2005.
